Daily Oral Care Routine: Brushing, Flossing and Brush Head Care

A useful oral-care routine is one you can repeat consistently. Keep your brush, toothpaste and interdental-cleaning tool accessible, and choose a regular time that fits your day.

Your daily checklist

• Brush with fluoride toothpaste twice daily for two minutes.
• Clean between teeth once a day with floss or a suitable interdental tool.
• Check that you have covered the inside, outside and chewing surfaces, not just the front teeth.

Make the brushing session easy to follow

Clean between teeth with control

With floss, guide it gently around the side of each tooth rather than snapping it into the gum. If access is difficult, ask your dental professional to demonstrate an alternative tool. Read the ADA's flossing instructions.

Keep track of your brush head

Note when you start a new head and check for wear. Replace it according to the product instructions, or sooner when bristles are visibly worn. Follow the handle's care instructions rather than using improvised boiling or cleaning methods. ADA toothbrush care guidance.

Where does mouthwash fit?
